Breaking Out Of The Binary Training

Queer Feminist Approach to Practice in LGBTIQ+ Family Violence & Intimate Partner Violence

About this event

Date: Tue, 28 Jun 2022

Time: 12:30 PM – 5:00 PM

The learning outcomes for this training focus on developing capacity in:

  • Identifying and responding to LGBTIQ+ intimate partner violence and family violence
  • Integrating queer feminist thinking into FV/IPV Practice
  • Further building into practice an approach that questions assumptions within a robust conceptual framework

This training brings together all the elements of queerspace’s current and evolving approach to practice in LGBTIQ+ family violence and intimate partner violence. This practice model:

  • Embraces queer people
  • Embraces intersectionality
  • Moves beyond the gender lens, but isn’t about giving up gender as an effect of structures of patriarchy/power
  • Draws on evidence
  • Honors and builds on women’s responses to FV/IPV over past 50 years
  • Values participants involvement, discussion and feedback as imperative to development of the approach

Who should attend:

family violence workers, specialist providers, mental health workers, community health workers, AOD workers, housing and homelessness service providers and anyone working with LGBTIQ+ people and their families.
